The Joerns UltraCare XT hospital bed is reffered to as a
“low bed” and also as a “high – low” bed since it goes down
as low as 7 inches off the ground but still goes up to 30
inches high like most full electric medical beds.
“Low” beds like the Joerns Ultracare XT are used for
home care, senior care, hospitals and are especially
used for patients that run a risk of falling out of bed
and also for patients in wheelchairs that need to transistion
from a wheelchair to bed.
For patients with Parkinsons, Alzheimers and other conditions
where a risk falling out of bed is a possibility these low beds reduce
any distance to fall since they are almost ground level. In
some cases care givers may place another mattress next to the bed
and thus they roll from the bed to another mattress about the
same height.
For patients in wheelchairs getting from a 15 inch wheelchair
onto a bed which is higher is difficult and thus the Joerns
XT bed can be lowered so the person can “go down” into the
bed and then raise it later with a pendant to transfer back
over. This makes transferring in and out of a wheelchair
much easier.
These hospital beds are ideal for long term care and also
for home care since they are light, full electric and adjustable.
